Literature Text

So long ago he whispered
And the words came slowly.
They drifted like green ripples in the sky.
I could hear the end of the bird's tune,
But I could not believe it.

The whisper turned darker as it drew near,
And I could see the bird ascending,
With its green feathers that it passed on to me.
I heard it's last cry.
Then I heard no more.

The ripples finally reached me as the bird landed.
I hope to use these feathers to join it.
Not to fly, but to land.
To land where I might hear it's sweet song again.
To wherever we may sing together again.
This started out as a school assignment which involved the students to choose a random work of art and write a poem inspired by it. I chose a painting of a green-ish blue-ish bird flying downward. I realize now that my teacher wanted me to separate it in parts, but I didn't understand him at the time.
